SRK Consulting welcomes Principal Consultant Erik Ronald to the resource geology team of its Denver Mining business unit. Erik has over 20 years of exploration and mining experience across multiple commodities, including iron ore, porphyry copper-gold, and industrial minerals. He specializes in geological modelling, resource estimation, exploration and evaluation, and mine geology.

Before joining SRK, Erik worked for Rio Tinto operations in Australia, Canada, and the United States. As Superintendent of Exploration for the Northparkes Mines in Australia, he managed all aspects of quality assurance and quality control, geological model construction, resource estimation, and annual reporting of mineral resources for surface and underground deposits in terms of the Australasian Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) code. And at Rio Tinto Iron Ore, Erik was involved in resource estimation and classification and the reporting of mineral resource models in support of order of magnitude studies, prefeasibility studies, and feasibility studies for Australia’s Pilbara iron ore deposits. Erik also acted as the JORC Competent Person for resources and reserves for Rio Tinto’s talc properties in the United States and Canada.

Erik has held high-level technical and leadership roles in corporate as well as operational environments. His project management experience includes technical studies such as exploration and evaluation programs, mineral resource and ore reserve studies, and multiple large project studies.

A registered professional geologist in Wyoming, Erik holds a master’s degree in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a graduate certificate in geostatistics from Edith Cowan University.

“We look forward to using Erik’s unique blend of excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong technical expertise and an underlying business focus,” said SRK U.S. President John Tinucci. “Our mining group will benefit greatly from his North American and Australian experience which spans projects from greenfields exploration to open-pit and underground operations.”
