  • SRK Consulting formalized as brand name for SRK Group
  • WESTEC acquired, adding US offices in Elko, Fort Collins, and Tucson

  • Geoscience consultancy Etheridge Henley Williams merges with Australian practice, adding Brisbane office
  • Gemcom Services Inc. (now minority shareholding rather than controlled subsidiary) changes name to Gemcom Software International and lists as public company on Vancouver Stock Exchange

  • Joint venture company Resource Development Consultants (RDC) formed with Danish consulting firm Carl Bro and Danish Industrialization Fund (IFU) to focus on social and economic services and four offices established in South Africa

  • Consult 4 consortium formed between South African practice and Ninham Shand Inc., Van Niekerk Kleyn & Edwards, and Keeve Steyn Inc. to work on multi-billion-dollar Lesotho Highlands water transfer scheme

  • Binnie & Partners (SA) merges with South African practice, adding water and effluent, structural engineering, and hydraulics capabilities
  • United Kingdom practice established in Cardiff
  • Robinson Dames and Moore purchased and renamed SRK-Robinson Inc.
  • GIS services introduced

  • Gemcom Services Inc. formed in Vancouver to develop and market Gemcom products, which eventually include applications for mine planning, exploration management, scheduling, and pit optimization
