Principal Civil-Geotechnical (Tailings) Engineer

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a Principal Civil-Geotechnical (Tailings) Engineer.


Description of Responsibilities:

  • Consult on projects for North American and international clients, requiring some travel.  
  • Complete project work primarily related to the mining industry, including Civil aspects of design, construction, and closure.  
  • Provide support on tailings storage facility design, pumping/transport, tailings planning including beaching characteristics, closure planning and options/risk evaluations. 
  • Consulting experience with tailings characterization and technologies such as conventional, thickened, paste and filtered deposits for metal mining, potash, oil sands, etc. are preferred.   
  • Provide support for project management, scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.  
  • Preparation of proposals. 
  • Participation in marketing efforts and business development. 
  • Preparation of prefeasibility and feasibility studies and designs. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Essential Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in civil, mining or geotechnical engineering required. 
  • At least 15 years of engineering experience in tailings design and construction, field investigations and other earthworks structures and related appurtenances. 
  • Fluency in more than one language a plus. 
  • Effective communication, management and leadership qualities working in a team environment. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain client relationships. 
  • Registration as a professional engineer (P.E., P. Eng.) or qualifications to become registered within one year. 
  • Status as Qualified Person under the requirements of NI 43-101. 

$135,000- $170,000 USD per annum.
