SRK EX was contracted to conduct an assessment of Seventy Ninth Resources’ gold exploration asset portfolio in the Republic of Guinea. This required the analysis of remote sensing data to map inferred geology and artisanal mining sites, as well as a synthesis and assessment of historical exploration data. A reconnaissance site visit was undertaken to verify historical results and design suitable follow up exploration methods.
SRK EX identified the most prospective targets, then planned and managed soil sampling and regolith mapping across two of the properties. The programme included teaching local geologists and technicians how to collect high quality samples consistently and safely, together with managing the chain of custody and transport of samples from site to laboratory. The soil samples were submitted for ionic geochemistry analysis to tease out new anomalies not well resolved by historical conventional soil sampling data.
SRK EX then planned a drilling programme combining air core and diamond core holes, to assess targets with coincident geochemical and geophysical anomalies, geological mapping and known artisanal workings.
SRK EX helped to establish drilling operations by identifying the contractors, equipment and materials needed for drilling, creating the logistical framework to support the programme, defining logging and sampling procedures, and teaching the client’s technical team how to use best-practice to generate reliable results. SRK EX oversaw the on-site drill pad construction and rehabilitation, logging, sampling, QA/QC, contractor coordination and liaison, as well as sample tracking and shipment.
SRK EX modelled the drilling results in 3D, integrating it with data from previous programmes, and suggested future actions to the client based on robust interpretations.
