SRK Exploration Services (SRK ES) recently assisted Irving Resources Inc. with its Omu project on Hokkaido Island in northern Japan by producing an independent technical report, in accordance with the Canadian National Instrument NI 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects.
Japan includes widespread epithermal gold and silver mineralisation and had a very active mining industry. However, during World War II the Japanese government closed almost all the precious metal mines so that the mining engineers could be allocated to base metal mines in support of the war effort. Following the war, very few of the mines resumed production, resulting in a hiatus in exploration and an opportunity for modern explorers.
Irving Resources is a Canadian Stock Exchange listed company with a focus on gold in Japan. Omu represents its flagship project and contains eight prospects, two of which were producing gold-silver deposits. Irving has completed geological mapping, stream sediment, soil and rock-chip sampling, geophysical surveying (ground gravity and airborne unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) magnetics), in conjunction with its Japanese exploration services contractor, Mitsui Mineral Development Engineering Co. Ltd. (MINDECO).
SRK ES visited the Omu project in August 2018. The fundamental purpose of the visit was to fulfil the NI 43-101 requirements and it enabled geological observations, a review of exploration procedures, interviewing project personnel, and the collection of verification samples. These were incorporated with historical and contemporary exploration results to create an independent and compliant technical report.
After such a hiatus in exploration and mining, it is an exciting time to be exploring for gold and silver in Japan and SRK ES are excited to have been involved with the project.
