James' experience includes technical consulting as well as roles managing various water management aspects of BHP’s operations in Australia. His experience encompasses water management projects in a broad range of hydrogeological settings and commodities around the world, both underground and open-pit. His specific areas of expertise include mine dewatering for inflows and stability, mine site surface water management, water balance modelling and surplus water management (including managed aquifer recharge), hydrogeological field investigations, water monitoring and impact assessments, and groundwater flow modelling.
At BHP, James led various operational and planning teams responsible for mine groundwater and surface water management, technical studies, regulatory engagement, and water risk and strategy. James was also involved in auditing water management risks across BHP Australia and incorporating them into a risk management framework as well as developing water management systems for BHP’s operations. He has published several papers on the topic of groundwater management and presented at various conferences. James speaks fluent English and Spanish.
