John's experience encompasses geotechnical engineering and waste management in the civil engineering and mining industries as well as in the civil geotechnical and mine waste management fields. He has experience in site investigations for mine services and infrastructure, residential developments, industrial developments, water dams, tailings facilities, energy infrastructure, reservoirs, pipelines, railways, cemeteries, roads, regional engineering geological mapping, risk assessment, forensic geotechnical investigations and reviews, dolomite karst stability assessments, undermined land and waste management. International experience includes geotechnical investigations for mining and infrastructure projects in Namibia, Uganda, Swaziland, Mozambique, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is fellow and past President of the South African Institute for Engineering and Environmental Geologists and is a member and past Vice President for Africa of the International Association of Engineering and Environmental Geology (IAEG). He is a professionally registered Earth Scientist with SACNASP.
