Nic's experience includes 22 years in gold, platinum, diamond, and coal mining operations in South Africa. Nic spent 14 years in deep level mining research at the Chamber of Mines Research Organisation (COMRO), subsequently the CSIR Division of Mining Technology (Miningtek) in South Africa. He was head of the Rockburst Control Project and then the Software Development Laboratory at COMRO and Miningtek. Subsequent to this Nic moved to a specialist mining numerical modelling rock mechanics consulting group based in Johannesburg.
As a consultant based in Canada and the UK, Nic has a further 15 years’ experience of operational and technical studies, scoping, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies. He has authored and co-authored a number of technical papers on rockburst control, software development, and numerical modelling in the mining industry.
