Sujit Roy is a Principal Engineering Geologist with SRK Consulting, India. He has more than eighteen years of academic and mining consulting experience. His area of specialization is engineering geology and hydrogeology with reference to opencast and underground mining projects. Sujit undertook several projects on geotechnical and hydrogeological characterization of the ground, pit slope and underground excavation designs, hydrological and hydrogeological assessment for open pit and underground mines. Sujit is proficient in geotechnical modelling, by Limit Equilibrium and numerical methods.
During his career, Sujit worked extensively in India and overseas. Sujit’s international project experience includes multiple projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, Somaliland, Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Oman, UK, Sweden, Spain, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
Currently Sujit focusses on technical work, project management, business development and building a core team of geotechnical engineers and hydrogeologists. The team is proficient in geotechnical and hydrogeological field data gathering, software-based modelling and technical report writing.
Sujit’s PhD program was aimed to analyse modes of failure in anisotropic rock masses. He established relationship between orientations of anisotropy with respect to hill slope and the depth of penetration of a failure surface. He also modelled post failure dynamics of the debris masses. Field observations, scaled model experiments and numerical simulations (FE) were employed in his PhD study. Sujit has published his findings in several peer reviewed journals of International repute.
One of the largest cement manufacturing companies in India, OCL India Limited, produces limestone from its open-cut Lanjiberna mine.
Saiba MaisThe Sukinda chromite valley in India, with 90 million tonnes of reserves and annual production of 3.5 million tonnes, presents significant opportunities to meet rising global and domestic chromite demand.
Saiba MaisEconomics and safety of large open pits rely primarily on the stability of the pit slopes. However, many historical operations do not adequately consider geotechnical aspects for pit slope design or for its operational management.
Saiba MaisSRK was engaged to assess opportunities of pit slope steepening for an iron ore mine in South India.
