As part of SRK's broader CIS and Central Asia initiatives, SRK Kazakhstan was registered in 2010 in the United Kingdom with an office in Almaty. This strategy aimed to consolidate our extensive experience in the mining and metals sector of Kazakhstan.

Our projects have since expanded beyond Kazakhstan to include Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Greenland and Botswana.

Our current focus is on feasibility studies and the technical work that supports them.  This primarily covers geological studies and the need to report Resources in accordance with the JORC Code (2012).  In this case SRK offers services to digitise historical data then design sampling programs to verify these data before completing a Mineral Resource estimate using Leapfrog or other software.  As part of a comprehensive package of services, SRK provides training to Client teams to log core and undertake sampling to the standards required for JORC reporting.  The geological models are then used for detailed mine planning and the reporting of Reserves in accordance with the JORC Code. Other key services that SRK provides are the field and technical programs for geotechnical and hydrogeological studies.  The geotechnical work is used to support the design of open pit slopes, underground excavations and tailings facilities.  The hydrogeological fieldwork is used to gather data needed to construct detailed 3D models of groundwater inflow.  Clients include multinational, vertically integrated groups (Kazakhmys, Kazzinc) as well as medium sized and smaller companies.

The local team has actively raised awareness of modern geological and mining techniques through workshops and training sessions (Mining in a Day) and has been instrumental in Kazakhstan’s accession to the international CRIRSCO system of reporting codes in 2016.

The Kazakhstan office has a staff of 37 full-time consultants and is supported by a team of specialists from SRK (UK), SRK (RU), SRK (ES) and the wider SRK Group.
