Applied Structural Geology Course 2023

This online course provides theoretical and practical advice to enable:

  • Improved confidence in recognising and interpreting key structures in the field and in exploration drill core.
  • Improved confidence and efficiency in structural data analysis and interpretation and the incorporation in 3D modelling workflows.
  • Cost-effective reduction of the inherent risk associated with exploration and mining.

Collecting and analysing structural data in drill core

·        Structural core logging and mapping.

·        Drill core orientation techniques.

·        Measuring orientation and managing errors.

·        Downhole geophysics, core scanning and automated logging.

·        Visualizing and analysing of structural data using stereonets.

 

Faults and Faults Systems

·        Overview of fault classification, faults networks and patterns.

·        Discussion of characteristics, analysis of geometry, interaction, movement and timing.

·        Kinematic analysis of faults – lineations, foliations and sense of shear.

 

Veins and Vein Systems

·        Vein classification and analysis.

·        Veins as kinematic indicators.

·        Controls on geometry and plunge of orebody.

 

Folds and Fold Systems
