Description
While exploration always requires boots on the ground, a number of desktop digital tools are available to the savvy explorer to quickly select the right ground to explore first.
Relevant public data available freely on the internet includes satellite imagery, geophysical data, geological maps, and geochemical data. These datasets contain extremely valuable information to support exploration targeting. Although these data are free to acquire, navigating access and usage is challenging. There has been an explosion of interest in these tools and data, as exploration geoscientists want to learn how big data, machine learning, and AI can be more easily integrated into their workflows, ultimately getting their boots on ground with the most potential.
The Digital Exploration Tools workshop provides a comprehensive overview of mineral exploration targeting using modern data science tools and publicly available geoscience data. This hands-on workshop aims at illustrating the process of using publicly available data to generate exploration targets through a case study over a selected area of interest. The focus will be aimed at ASTER and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, with the addition of geochemistry, mineral deposits data, geophysics, and geological maps. Techniques will include data exploration and cleaning, satellite image analysis & mineral mapping, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, prospectivity analysis, and target ranking.
