Tailings Management: Responding to Emerging Challenges Seminar

This two-day seminar will address the emerging challenges in the day-to-day management of tailings storage facilities and the obligation to comply with the relevant operating standards and closure requirements.

This event will explore the conditions and obstacles encountered in everyday mining, and innovative solutions utilised in different mining operations and environments; and will include case studies, specialist presentations and discussion sessions.

SRK Presentations:

Defining 'dry' in dry-stacks - optimising filtered tailings facilities

Cameron Hore

This presentation will discuss the approach, considerations and optimisation opportunities in the determination of target and achievable moisture contents for dry stack facility designs.

Critical state soil mechanics in filtered tailings storage facility design

Joe Rola

This presentation will present a methodology aimed at minimising risks related to liquefaction induced failures of dry stack facilities. The methodology is based on a critical state assessment of the dry stack material to identify a defensible structure zone compaction specification, which ensures dilative conditions prevail across the design dry stack stress range.

Presenters:
