Tailings Reprocessing as a Strategy to Mitigate Environmental Liability: A Case Study for Copper Mining in Mexico

Mexico Technical Session | Arizona Ballroom Salons 11 - 12

Abstract

This presentation will examine client considerations to increase mine production for an underground copper mine in Mexico, which included an assessment to improve Cu recoveries in the concentrator.

The project also included considerations for a new Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). Additionally, the client wanted to assess the potential of improving recovery of gold and silver values in the plant feed. The project resulted in a plan to reprocess production tails together with current TSF and historic TSF tailings in a post-concentrator cyanidation circuit with a sulfidization, acidification, recycling, and thickening (SART) process.
