To Creditation or Not to Creditation?

Indeed, use of cyanide has often been the focal concern and several well documented incidents where cyanide release has occurred has slurred the reputation of most operations for which cyanide is effectively managed and used. Based on concerns, the International Cyanide Management Code was developed as a voluntary initiative for the gold and silver mining industries and the producers and transporters of the cyanide used in gold and silver mining. It is intended to complement an operation’s existing regulatory requirements. Compliance with the rules, regulations and laws of the applicable political jurisdiction is necessary; the Cyanide Code is not intended to contravene such laws. However, the objectives and guidelines are far more reaching than simple accreditation and provide the basis for safe and efficient operational management of cyanide in the mining industry. This workshop aims to review the cyanide in the mining industry from generation, supply and application including disposal and influence on closure issues. The purpose is to provide the participants with a better understanding of the safe management of cyanide that is produced, transported and used for the recovery of gold and silver, and on mill tailings and leach solutions.
