Abstract
Similar to the positive trend in battery electric vehicle (BEV) uptake in the general population for personal transportation, an increasing number of mining companies are actively incorporating BEV technology into their operations. Making the switch from internal combustion engines to electric power can benefit a company in achieving production, economic, health & safety, and ESG targets. To be successful in this endeavor, however, requires more thought and planning than simply replacing a diesel-powered piece of equipment with its battery-powered equivalent. A thorough understanding of the opportunities and risks of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is useful throughout the life of the deposit, beginning in the initial scoping study phase and continuing through into mine operation (and perhaps beyond).
This presentation will discuss some of the points that should be considered by mining companies seeking to manage risk and achieve their goals following the introduction of BEVs into their underground operations.
