Jack Steenekamp Principal Mining Engineer
SRK Consulting (Australasia) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Steenekamp as Principal Consultant. Jack has 30 years’ combined industry and consulting experience in mining in Australia and internationally with a specialised focus on coal throughout his career.
“We are very pleased to have Jack returning to SRK”, said SRK’s Managing Director, Chris Woodfull. ‘’Jack has extensive experience in Australia and internationally across operational, technical and management roles. His strong skills in underground coal operating environments and knowledge of what is required to deliver cost-efficient and sustainable operational processes, as well as his extensive consulting experience, will greatly benefit SRK and our clients.
Jack’s thorough understanding of both operating and corporate environments allows him to lead multidisciplinary studies ranging from mine planning and optimisation, technical economic analyses and due diligence reviews, to feasibility studies and reserve reporting in accordance with the JORC Code. His experience in research, development and implementation of innovative underground mining technologies will add further depth to SRK’s capability in this area.”
Jack has been based in Queensland since 2001, where his most recent role was as Managing Director of Mining Consultancy Services (Australia) from 2011 to 2018, during which time he expanded the business in Australia and internationally. Prior to this, from 2004 to 2007 Jack worked with SRK’s Brisbane Mining team. Jack has also fulfilled several operational roles including Manager Highwall Mining at Anglo Amercian Metallurgical Coal’s Dawson Mine and Development Superintendent at its Moranbah North Mine, as well as a range of site and head-office based roles for South African fuel-and-chemicals-from-coal producer, Sasol, within its coal mining division.
Jack holds an MBA from the University of South Africa, alongside his Bachelor degrees in mechanical engineering and mining engineering. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation.
