SRK Consulting announces Gary Poxleitner has been named as a recipient of the 2023 CIM Distinguished Lecturer Award. This award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the minerals industry through their scientific, technical, management, or educational activities.
Gary’s involvement in the mining industry spans over three decades, starting with his graduation from the mining engineering program at Laurentian University in 1991. He has worked in operations, engineering, and capital projects at numerous mines globally and multiple commodities, including diamonds at Kimberley Mine in South Africa, zinc and copper at Myra Falls on Vancouver Island, and gold at Giant Mine in the Northwest Territories.
Gary has also been a consultant for over 11 years and has been involved in hundreds of projects on every continent in over 50 countries, focusing on areas such as due diligence, operational improvement, cost estimation, and mine design. His primary interest is in increasing value in the industry through cut-off grade determination and optimization, mine innovation, mine cost estimation and economical evaluation, and balancing economies with sensitivity to environmental impact.
In addition to his impressive career accomplishments, Gary has served as a board member of SRK, CIM Sudbury board membership chair, chair of the CIM UMS, vice-chair of Camiro, and on CIM National Council. He is currently the chair of the CIM National Guidelines, Standards, and Leading Practice Directorate for CIM National.
When asked about his thoughts on CIM and its mission, Gary stated,
CIM is a community of creative and diverse contributors from the mining industry, who come together to network and to share knowledge and experience. It’s a tradition I am proud to be a part of.”
The CIM Awards will be presented at a gala on Monday, May 1, 2023, during the CIM Convention held at Palais des congrès de Montréal/Montreal Convention Centre. At the gala, CIM—now in its 125th year—will celebrate the achievements of more than 55 individuals and organizations within the minerals and metals industry. This year’s awards also include Career Excellence Awards, Branch and Society Awards, Safety Awards, Early Career Awards, Exploration Awards, Sustainability Awards, and more.
SRK Consulting is proud to have Gary Poxleitner on the team, and we congratulate him on receiving this prestigious award. His contributions to the mining industry and his commitment to excellence make him an outstanding recipient of the 2023 CIM Distinguished Lecturer Award.
