SRK Consulting continues to expand its geoenvironmental team with the recruitment of geotechnical specialist Sam Paterson to head up SRK Brisbane’s geotechnical team. Mr Paterson joined SRK in late April 2011 from WorleyParsons where he held the position of Geotechnical Manager for Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Mr Paterson has some 20 years postgraduate experience in the geotechnical field and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland. He has been based in Brisbane since 2004 and during this time has had a focus on mine infrastructure in Queensland. Recent projects include tailings and dam work for clients Rio Tinto Alcan, BMA and Xstrata Coal.
“All of his professional experience has been in multi-disciplinary consultancy giving him a valuable range of design experience’, says SRK’s Managing Director Brian Middleton.
‘This range of experience is a real asset to SRK and our clients as he will work closely with our well-established geoenvironmental team to service and expand SRK’s strong Queensland mining client base. This is particularly important as this region continues to grow as one of Australia’s leading mining centres.’
‘Sam is well regarded for his civil engineering and geotechnical design skills and as a project manager of broad geotechnical projects,’ he says.
‘My career experience has been quite diverse and I have been fortunate enough to have worked in a variety of civil and mining geotechnical roles throughout the world including Australia, Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the United Kingdom.’ Mr Paterson adds.
‘By virtue of this diverse career I have gained detailed design experience in site investigation, earthworks structures, all types of foundations and retaining structures, ground improvement, deep excavation support, rock anchors, soil nailing, large scale reinforced earth, marine structures, dams, tailings dams, remedial works for infrastructure earthworks and tunneling’.
