Scott Marisett Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer

SRK Consulting has bolstered its engineering team in Perth with the recent appointment of prominent mine geotechnical specialist, Scott Marisett

Marisett’s extensive industry experience and collaborative working approach will augment SRK’s project pitches, particularly in the underground mining sector, says Ian de Bruyn, SRK Practice Leader and Principal Geotechnical Engineer.

“We do a significant amount of underground mining project work in Australia and internationally, and working on interesting, high profile projects is a focus for us,” he said. “Scott has added further strength to our team in this area and we are excited to be able to offer a vehicle for Scott to use his expertise and skills. In terms of underground projects, Scott will help us with his vast experience, particularly here in Perth.”

Canadian-born Marisett began his engineering career after graduating from Queen’s University in Ontario with a geological engineering degree in the early 1990s, just as a broad mining industry downturn hit. As graduates fought for the few jobs being offered, Marisett flew to Kambalda, Western Australia, where he secured a job with WMC Resources as a geotechnical engineer.

He has continued to work in the region for much of his 25-year career, with stints in the Philippines with OceanaGold and back in Canada with AMEC Foster Wheeler. He has also worked in various operational and management roles with companies including WMC Resources, Newmont Mining, GeoMech Services and Coffey Mining, and as a principal mining geotechnical engineer at Golder Associates.

Marisett’s experience spans a range of commodities, countries and services, and has included investigations, mine design, mining-induced seismicity, risk management and mine closure. His emphasis on identifying significant value-adding opportunities and project enhancements for clients is an innate focus.

“My motivation, whether working for consulting companies or mining companies, has always been adding value and looking for creative solutions”, Marisett said.

Marisett said he was drawn to SRK for its first-rate industry reputation as well as its project diversity and strong team ethics. He is currently working on six diverse projects, including geotechnical due diligence for an African copper project and input to underground gold, copper and lithium mining studies.

“Since joining the company, I’ve been encouraged to be part of a geotechnical team that has a good reputation in the industry and a knowledgeable international network,” he said. “I look forward to helping them take advantage of that.”
