SRK Consulting continues to expand its Melbourne, Victoria team with the recruitment of specialist mining engineer Peter Fairfield. Peter will head up the mining team, focusing on project evaluations and due diligence for all levels
of projects.
“Peter, a highly regarded mining manager, has over 20 years’ experience in technical and operational roles and joins SRK with an impressive track record”, says SRK’s Managing Director Brian Middleton. “His extensive experience
and knowledge both in operational mine management as well as consulting are major assets to SRK and he has been active since joining our Melbourne office in March 2011.”
Peter has worked for a number of major mining houses; most recently with St Barbara where he was General Manager of Technical Services. He has also previously held senior consulting and operational management roles.
“I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work across a number of commodities, operation sizes and roles with very talented people. This has given me a real appreciation for the fundamentals of a successful project
and the importance of delivering on expectations” he says.
Peter has worked on numerous large mining projects throughout Australia and in North America. At St Barbara he managed delivery of a new five year / 300k oz operation from scoping study through to commencement of construction.
This included provision of services and support to site functions, system development and implementation. In his role as a Senior Consultant and Mining Manager he has operated as a project manager and team member of numerous
studies across project pipelines from scoping to feasibility study. Clients included Australian and overseas based underground and open pit operations.
At Pasminco he was the Mine Manager at its Gordonsville silver, lead and zinc operations in Tennessee, USA, and at the Elura Mine in Cobar he managed technical, operating and maintenance teams across three separate mines to support
delivery of 1.2 Mtpa. Prior to being appointed to Mining Manager, Peter held a senior technical role at Elura and productions roles with Central Norseman Gold in Norseman.
