SRK Consulting has expanded its national geotechnical presence and expertise with the recruitment of numerical modelling specialist William Gibson. William has joined SRK’s Perth office with over 28 years’ geotechnical, mining and civil engineering experience spanning open pit mining operations, underground mine designs and seismic risk assessments throughout the world.
Prior to joining SRK, William has held technical roles and been in specialised numerical modelling groups which saw him undertake slope stability analysis for small and large pits. He has also developed his own software for gravity flow analysis, rock fall 3D analysis, probabilistic analysis of wedge stability and generation of artificial earthquakes for dynamic anaylsis. His experience includes projects like Chuquicamata, Esperanza and Pelambres in Chile, Olympic Dam in Australia and Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia.
“I have been fortunate to work on a variety of large scale mining projects throughout Australia, Mongolia, South America, Central America and Canada,” says William. “Furthermore the modelling software I’ve developed will assist clients having challenges at an operational level and ensure the project’s success. Some of the software allows us to have a new and fresh view of common problems in geomechanics, others are designed to tackle more complicated geotechnical problems with the aim to increase productivity of the mining operations,” he says.
“William is highly regarded for his extensive technical and analytical skills which will complement our existing team expertise in open pit slope stability, block caving, tailings and waste management. He has also authored numerous geotechnical papers and has an excellent background in computer programming, so we are very pleased to have William join us”, SRK Principal Geotechnical Consultant Jeff Price says.
“Our geotechnical team has expanded nationally with the addition of Michael Dunn in Perth, Louie Human in Melbourne, and Jeff Price’s recent relocation to Sydney,” says Brian Middleton, SRK’s Managing Director. “This positions us well to meet all of our clients’ geotechnical requirements.”
