SRK is delighted to welcome Tim Carew as a principal consultant in geology. Tim will be based in SRK’s Reno office, but will also work closely with the Vancouver Mining Group.

Tim brings over 35 years of mining industry experience to SRK, including a wealth of geological and operations knowledge. He specializes in reserve and resource estimation, Whittle pit and schedule optimization, mine planning and design, block caving, and mine production management, and for the last 12 years has provided independent consulting services in these areas. His work has included producing technical audits and feasibility studies for major mining operations worldwide.

Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Rhodesia and a master’s degree in mineral production management from the Royal School of Mines. His early experience was in mining geology and geomechanics in open pit and underground block cave asbestos operations in Zimbabwe. During this time, he developed an enduring interest in geostatistical methods applied to resource and reserve estimation.

After moving to Canada, Tim continued working in the asbestos industry at an open pit and underground operation and gained further experience at a copper and gold open pit mine. His work included pit slope design and optimization, strategic mine planning and design, ore reserve studies, and the application of geomechanics to underground support design and block caving systems. He also participated in the technical and economic evaluation of Canadian and international projects at due diligence, prefeasibility, and feasibility levels.

For the next 10 years, Tim worked for Gemcom USA. During this period, he developed in-depth knowledge of Gemcom and other mining software applications, including geological modelling, geostatistical analysis and block modelling, block cave simulation, reserve estimation, mine design, and production planning. He also became an expert in using Whittle pit optimization software for pit optimization and scheduling. Tim continued consulting in these areas while working for Reserva International. His most recent projects have also included NI 43-101 and JORC-compliant reporting.

Tim’s career has taken him across the globe to the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Africa, Australia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. His experience covers an extensive range of precious and base metals, industrial minerals, and diamonds.
