SRK Consulting (U.S.), Inc. is pleased to offer a scholarship program for the 2015/2016 school year. The program is intended to help students complete master’s and doctoral degrees in mining-related fields, including:

  • Mining engineering,
  • Exploration and mining geology,
  • Hydrogeology and water engineering,
  • Tailings and mine waste management, and
  • Environmental science and engineering.

Scholarships may provide recipients with the opportunity to work alongside our experienced professionals during breaks in the academic year and to gain practical experience in their selected fields.

 

Value:

 

Up to $3,000 per semester

 

Eligibility requirements:

 

Applicants must:

  • Be permitted to study in the United States,
  • Have an appropriate undergraduate qualification, and
  • Be enrolled for a scientific/engineering MSc or PhD in a mining-related field.

 

Selection Criteria:

 

Applicants will be assessed according to the following:

  • Academic achievement, as evidenced by their academic record,
  • A written recommendation by a university reference,
  • A written statement of no more than 500 words indicating:
  • the benefit they will obtain from the scholarship,
  • a genuine desire to work in the mining and resources industry, and
  • any other information the applicant considers relevant to their application.

 

Selection process:

 

Potential recipients will be identified by either SRK (US) practice leaders or through partnerships with local universities. The scholarship panel may interview short-listed applicants.
The successful applicant(s) will be notified by SRK (US) by the end of August, 2015. The selection decision is at the complete discretion of the SRK (US) scholarship panel, and while the panel may provide reasons for an unsuccessful application, it is under no obligation to do so.

 

Terms and conditions:

 

The successful applicant(s) will be asked to sign a contract containing the terms of the scholarship. Previous scholarship recipients and SRK employee family members are not eligible for the program.

 

Application procedure:

 

Applications must be submitted by the advertised closing date and must be accompanied by:

  • A brief resume, including details of present and previous work experience where applicable,
  • Current transcripts,
  • A written recommendation by a university reference with contact details, and
  • A written statement of no more than 500 words

Payments:

 

The scholarship will normally be paid directly to the applicable university, but may be paid directly to the student in special circumstances. The recipient must provide evidence of enrollment in the appropriate academic year.

 

Concurrent Scholarships:

 

The recipient should make SRK (US) aware of any funding received in addition to the SRK scholarship.
