In a continued effort to support communities, SRK proudly engages in the initiatives of its employees. Findlay Craig, Principal Consultant (Structural Geology) founded and organized the annual wargaming charity event, Toss Yer Cabers (TYC). Throughout three days, 10, 11, and 24th of June, at Vancouver's Croatian Cultural Centre, the event united almost 200 players and volunteers for spirited games, all while raising funds to support local causes, with a particular emphasis on aiding those experiencing homelessness. The diverse games, featuring captivating miniature battles such as Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar, showcased the event's immersive appeal.
Craig shared his involvement stating, "I started TYC originally because I wanted to try my hand at running an event; at the time, I didn't expect the growth we have had!" What began as an experiment in 2014 with a modest group of 17 participants has developed into a much larger community.
Creating a positive space where individuals can unite, contribute, and have fun while supporting essential causes is what drives Craig’s involvement. “The world has given me the rare opportunity to be supported when needed. I’ve been homeless and unemployed, I’ve struggled with depression, and I’ve had people who stepped up to look after me when I couldn’t look after myself or didn’t have the resources to cope. I need to give that back somehow, and with persistence, I hope to build something where that giving is amplified beyond what I could do alone.”
Craig initiated the partnership with SRK in 2015 by channeling physical donations to support people in vulnerable situations. Over time, SRK’s involvement expanded to include financial contributions and active staff participation. Craig’s dedication to TYC mirrors SRK’s commitment to quality work, inclusion, and community enrichment.
Operating under the registered non-profit, Wargamers Without Borders Society, the event contributed $13,000 to local charities this year, supplemented by SRK's $1,000 contribution. Yet, the event's influence is beyond the financial support, as essential items like socks, underwear, and feminine hygiene products were collected and distributed to those in need, fostering tangible support.
With a remarkable $53,000 raised for charities to date, including contributions to global initiatives through organizations like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, TYC embodies the power of uniting passion, commitment, and philanthropy for positive change.
