ClimSIM software helps mine ventilation engineers understand subsurface atmospheres by simulating their airflow. Factors it considers include geothermal gradient, rock thermal conductivity and diffusivity, excavation age, rock surface wetness, machinery siting and capacity, and local or disseminated sources of heat and humidity, such as heat exchangers.

The program is also used for heat load estimation and refrigeration planning. It performs heat load analyses on a branch-by-branch basis, providing a complete picture of air psychrometric conditions. It also sequences branches to allow thermodynamic analysis of a network of branches representing a single level of a mine or the entire site.

Key Features

  • Spreadsheet-style data entry enabling easy input of multiple branches
  • Graphical and tabular output of many different parameters
  • Sequencing tool for developing sub-networks
  • Heat source tool facilitating input of sensible and latent heat sources and sinks
  • Fan and regulator tool accounting for air pressure variations and enabling the entry of sensible heat additions from fans
  • Advanced evaluation of heat stress indices, with users selecting clothing based on activity levels and ClimSIM predicting skin temperature based on air cooling power
  • Evaluation of heat additions from dry and wet rock surfaces, with a branch-by- branch summary of sensible and latent heat from the strata and combined, user-specified heat sources and sinks
