Life-of-Mine Design, Annual Reserve Update, and Operational Assistance at Bisha Mine
Bisha is a copper zinc open pit mining operation in East Africa. Its design has been through several revisions due to the complexity of the mineralogy and changes in the commodity market. The mine has required significant strategic planning and mining engineering support to achieve ongoing success.
Since 2014 we have been involved in multiple capacities at the site, including conducting annual strategic mine planning and pit optimization exercises for two deposits and re-evaluating mining circumstances through constantly changing market conditions. We have helped Nevsun make operational decisions to reduce operating costs and maximize revenue, for example by adjusting production schedules and key indexes and updating annual reserves and resources. Based on the results of our strategic mine planning, we have helped site engineers update their life-of-mine plans, including continually adjusting the final pit and related pushbacks.
Throughout our involvement with Bisha, we have mentored local engineers, developed and delivered on-site courses customized to local conditions, and trained mining engineers on best practices.
