Stakeholder Engagement Plan

Stakeholder Engagement and Environmental Management for a Uranium Project

The Wheeler River project is a grassroots uranium project located in northern Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin. Advancing any new uranium mine in Canada requires a robust environmental assessment as well as a social license to operate. This is particularly important when the mining method suggested (in this case in situ recovery) has never been proposed, or used, in Canadian uranium mining history.

Our initial project scope was to develop a robust stakeholder engagement management plan that follows provincial, federal, and international guidance. Implementing this plan over the course of two years resulted in well-documented community input that was integrated into the project engineering designs. During the process, a strong working relationship developed between our client and the impacted communities, which will positively influence the project’s environmental and social assessment.

We also provided high-level guidance for the development and implementation of an environmental baseline program capable of satisfying the federal and provincial regulatory agencies’ requirements for the project’s environmental assessment.
