The hydrogeology group worked for three years on a mine located in northern Chile. This past year's main work included constructing a new numerical model for the open pit using Groundwater Vista USG, calibrated with pilot points and performing uncertainty analysis using a parameter estimation tool (PEST).
The hydrogeology model gives monthly input to the geotechnical pit stability model, defines the short, medium and long term drainage program, and helps to site new pumping wells for best results in depressurizing critical zones inside the pit.
