Mining Concept Study

Underground and opencut coking coal deposit in Queensland

The site is suited to bord and pillar underground mining and opencut methods that will produce high quality semi-soft coking coal and thermal coal for an export market.

The site posed significant challenges due to structural complexities, high gas content and steeply dipping coal seams. Other challenges involved the close proximity to the local township, surface infrastructure and environmentally sensitive areas within the target mining area.

Following a gap analysis, the scope of work involved identify ‘low-hanging fruit’ opportunities to allow for efficient capital application and effective and optimised timelines of implementation and production start-up.
