Oak Dam - Deposit and Regional-scale Structural Geology and 3D Modelling
Oak Dam, South Australia
BHP
2024
SRK was engaged by BHP to undertake a program of structural geology data collection, structural interpretation and 3D modelling at both the deposit-scale and regional-scale at Oak Dam Iron-Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) deposit.
SRK has significant expertise in exploring for IOCG deposits, regional structural interpretation from geophysics and 3D modelling integrating structural data, including previous work on the Gawler Craton. With additional expertise provided by BHP’s Oak Dam teams.
SRK delivered bespoke structural geology training to BHP teams covering areas including structural geology theory, structural core logging, 3D modelling integrating structural data and structural interpretations from regional geophysical datasets.
The collaborative project saw the development of a tectonic evolution framework, a regional structural interpretation and 3D model, as well as a deposit-scale structural model. The models at both scales were fully integrated with each other, ensuring they were consistent with the broader evolution of the region, data collected and interpretations made.
The knowledge gained and models delivered enabled BHP to meet the stakeholder requirements for future brownfields targeting, resource geology, hydrogeology and geotechnical studies.
