Trans Hex Operations (Pty) Ltd (THO) is applying for a Mining Right (to mine diamonds) in Marine Concessions 11B and 13B off the Western Cape Coast of South Africa. Mining will be conducted by means of a remotely controlled seabed tractor launched/recovered from a vessel.
In terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014, an application for a Mining Right requires an Environmental Authorisation.
THO has appointed SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) to undertake the EIA process required in terms of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA) and the EIA Regulations, 2014.
The concessions are off the Western Cape Coast of South Africa. The B-concessions stretch from ~1 km offshore to ~5 km offshore.
The Scoping Report was released and available for public comment between 30 August 2024 and 1 October 2024. On conclusion of the comment period, the Scoping Report was finalised, and all comments received were recorded and responded to in the Issues and Responses Summary. The final Scoping Report including the Issues and Responses Summary was submitted to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources on 24 October 2024 for their consideration.
