PROJECT SYNOPSIS

NPC is proposing the following performance upgrades to the Simuma Plant:

 

  • Upgrade of Kiln 2 to increase the clinker production from 1500 to 4000 tons per day.
  • Construction of a new second cement mill, which includes a Vertical Roll Mill (VRM) with a capacity of 150 tons per hour (t/hr) (while the current cement mill capacity will remain at 77t/hr)
  • Installation of a 9.0 MW waste heat recovery unit which will recover waste heat from the flue gas at Kiln 2 to fulfil electricity requirements for the entire expansion project.
  • Upgrade of related auxiliaries and services to support the increased capacities such as raw materials supply, water treatment and dispatch facilities.

 

The proposed upgrades to the facility are subject to the following:

A Basic Assessment (BA) process in terms of the NEMA 2014 Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, as amended.

 

A variation to the following NEM: AQA listed activities in NPC’s current AEL:

Subcategory 5.4: Cement production: the preparation of raw materials, production, and cooling of Portland cement clinker, grinding and blending or clinker to produce finished cement and packaging of finished cement.

Subcategory 5.5: Cement production: the production and cooling of Portland cement clinker, grinding and blending of clinker to produce finished cement where alternative fuels and/or resources are used.
