PROJECT SYNOPSIS

Red Cap Energy (Pty) Ltd, under various Special Purpose Vehicles, namely, Riemland Wind Farm 1 (Pty) Ltd, Riemland Wind Farm 2 (Pty) Ltd, Riemland Wind Farm 3 (Pty) Ltd, Riemland Wind Farm 4 (Pty) Ltd (‘Riemland’) respectively propose to develop four wind farms and associated grid connection infrastructure near Heilbron, Free State, collectively referred to as the Riemland Wind Farms Development (‘the project’).

 The project will require a number of approvals and authorisations including:

  • Environmental Authorisations in terms of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA) and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014, as amended.
  • Water Use Licence in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act 36 of 1998.
  • Approval in terms of Section 53 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002.
  • Approval in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act 25 of 1999.

SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (‘SRK’) has been appointed by Riemland as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to undertake the Scoping and EIA processes required for the project in terms of NEMA.


PROJECT LOCATION

A ~62 000 ha area near Heilbron in the Ngwathe Local Municipality (Fezile Dabi District Municipality) and the Nketoana Local Municipality (Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality), Free State.


STATUS OF PROJECT

A Background Information Document (BID) is available in English, Afrikaans and Sesotho. The BID has been produced to provide Interested and Affected (IAPs) an understanding of what the proposed project entails, and the process being undertaken. Stakeholders are invited to submit preliminary comments and/or register on the project database via the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/9LY4gsQeSs.

 Note that only registered stakeholders will be notified of future opportunities to provide comment on relevant documentation, including Scoping and EIA Reports associated with the above applications that will be submitted to the Competent Authority for the development(s).
