Tiger Brands Tomato Paste Plant WUL
Water Use Licence Application (WULA) for the Tiger Brands Tomato Paste Plant, Lutzville, Western Cape

On 22 November 2013, Tiger Consumer Brands (Tiger Brands) was granted a WUL authorising the storage of raw water and discharge of treated effluent from their tomato paste plant (the Plant) in Lutzville, Western Cape. Discharge entails irrigation of a designated 6 hectare area adjacent to the Plant (WUL number 17E33HEG2166). The WUL was valid for a period of five years and lapsed on 22 November 2018. Tiger Brands is applying for a WUL for the same activities authorised in the previous WUL.
The Procedural Requirements for WULA and Appeals, 2017 (Regulation 267), promulgated in terms of the National Water Act 36 of 1998 (NWA), as amended, prescribes inter alia, the procedures and requirements for WULAs as contemplated in section 41 of the NWA. Tiger Brands has commenced with the process of applying for their WUL on the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) Electronic Water Use Licence Application and Authorisation System (e-WULAAS).
The WULA process, as stipulated in section 17 of the WULA and Appeals Regulation, 2017, includes a 60-day public comment period and compilation of a Stakeholder Engagement Report detailing the stakeholder engagement process undertaken, and an Issues and Responses Summary documenting and responding to any comments raised during the comment period.
SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) has been appointed by Tiger Brands to undertake the WULA process.

Comments must be submitted by 20 March 2022. Note that only registered stakeholders will be notified of future progress on the project.
