Mining Magazine's Graig Guthrie spoke with several principals of SRK Consulting's engineering team about power efficiency in the mining industry.
The decarbonisation debate in the mining industry often focuses on how to replace fossil-fuelled power in energy-intensive operations with renewable sources, with zero-carbon pledges and solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) stealing the headlines.
But ensuring that efficiency features at every design stage for downstream operations are also becoming increasingly important for OEMs, as the large shareholders of clients make energy-saving an issue for planned and existing operations.
EMEA Editor Craig Guthrie addresses the topic of efficiency in a wide-ranging discussion with SRK Consulting’s engineering team, including Andrew van Zyl, partner and principal consultant, Norman (Noddy) McGeorge, principal mining engineer and Joseph Mainama, a principal mining engineer. Also joining in the debate are Jaco Van Graan, principal mining engineer, Ali Rudaki, principal mining engineer, Chris Smythe, principal mechanical engineer and Kenny Mahuma, design engineer.
