Whilst issues such as cyanide, toxic metals, arsenic and acidity are generally given the highest priority in connection with the treatment of mine waste or effluent, they are not generally the most persistent. Volumetrically dissolved salt constituents such as sulphate, sodium and calcium are generally more conservative and as such much more difficult to mitigate.
