This award is granted by the Young Members Presidential Group (YMPG), the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and the organizing committee of the XVII Pan-American Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (PANAMGEO 2024).
The Bright Spark Lecture Award was introduced by former president, Professor Charles W.W. Ng, to promote the involvement of young geotechnical engineers who are members of the ISSMGE in playing significant roles at various international and regional conferences by providing them the opportunity to deliver keynote lectures at these events.
Mauro will present his work "A comparison of advanced constitutive models to evaluate flow liquefaction of upstream raised tailings dams" as a keynote speaker. His research addresses recent failures in upstream raised tailings storage facilities, which have led to higher standards in the mining industry for assessing the risk of tailings liquefaction. A remarkable achievement for the geotechnical community!
