We focus on providing exploration consultancy and geological field services to the minerals and metals sector. We are the SRK Consulting Group’s only discipline-focused practice, so are not geographically constrained and have extensive global project experience. The majority of our clients are publicly or privately financed junior exploration companies; however, we have also assisted mid-tier and major listed mining companies as well as a growing number of government agencies and national geological surveys.

Major Services

Our service offerings are broadly split into consultancy and geological field services. We provide strategic advice and technical planning for exploration programmes and complete audits, valuations and evaluations to help clients maximise the potential of their projects. We author independent technical reports in compliance with international guidelines for reporting exploration results such as the JORC Code or CIM NI43-101. We can provide technical training courses in a wide variety of exploration practices to upskill client company geologists in line with industry best-practice. 

Our team of experienced geologists can conduct all aspects of “boots on the ground” geological field work, either independently or working alongside a client’s in-house team.  As required, we can provide turnkey exploration solutions for the duration of a field season or extended programmes of work that may involve logistics, camp construction, and safety and security assessments, in addition to geological services.

New Strategies

Our data analytics team has established robust data-driven (machine learning) and knowledge-led approaches to prospectivity analysis to help to solve challenges in exploration due to “big data” and diminishing discovery rates. Our approaches are supplemented by our M-VAP tool that utilises endowment modelling and evaluation of exploration maturity to estimate absolute prospectivity. With these powerful insights, clients can objectively assess the probability of discovering deposits above a given size threshold within their project property portfolio and make more informed decisions regarding licence acquisition/retention/disposal and exploration budget allocation.

We continue to grow our branch office in Johannesburg and build strong relationships with other SRK practices that have exploration geologists. We remain committed to upholding exploration best practices in all our commissions, including the implementation of ESG to ensure mineral exploration progresses on a firm, sustainable footing.
