11:00 - 12:00 |  SRK Consulting Master-Class Strategic Mine Planning (SMP)

The Strategic Mine Planning (SMP) master class provides an overview of good practise for developing a mine plan at any stage including greenfield, operating or restart of historic mines. Typical uncertainties that arise during mine planning include:
• Production rate potential of mining targets and the impact of cut-off grade.
• Cut-off grade strategy and schedule priorities.
• Consideration of Inferred resources for open pit and underground strategic planning.
• Reporting of Ore Reserves to an Internationally Recognised Reporting Code.

The SMP master class will outline a range of project challenges experienced and solutions applied through trade-off assessment and detailed mine planning, covering topics such as:
• Selection of mining method, cut-off grade, production rate and schedule priorities.
• Mine waste management, carbon footprint and mine closure considerations.
• Strategic planning considering Inferred Resources.
• Managing gaps in data and testwork.

Presenter: Chris Bray, Principal Consultant (Mining)

14:00 - 15:30 | Strategy session 4 The Present and the Future of Geological Exploration in Kazakhstan: New Technologies and Incentives

A discussion on resource depletion issues and strategies for geological exploration activities. Changes in government policy, including incentives for geological research and tax reforms to attract investments in domestic and foreign capital markets. Government initiatives aimed at implementing digital technologies, including artificial intelligence for data processing and interpretation. The potential for new geological discoveries driven by the intensification of airborne geophysical surveys and the transition to detailed mapping at a scale of 1:500,000.

Moderator: Robert Bowell, Corporate Consultant Geochemist

16:00 - 17:30 | Strategy session 5
Uranium Mining and Nuclear Energy Evolution in Kazakhstan: Navigating Geopolitics, Investment, and Sustainability for a Carbon-Neutral Future

17:00 - In Situ Recovery and other potential by-products

Kazakhstan plays a key role in the global nuclear fuel cycle, providing 43% of global uranium production in 2022 and owning 12% of the world’s reserves. However, until now, the country’s participation has been limited to the supply of raw materials. Kazakhstan’s ambitions go beyond uranium exports. The country sees an opportunity to develop the domestic potential of the nuclear-powered energy generation, moving up the value chain from uranium mining to fuel production and possibly even to the production of reactor components.

11:30 - 13:00 | Sustainabilty Session 2
Mine Closure, Tailings and Waste Management: Regulatory Advances and Practical Challenges

12:15 - Numerical Modelling for Tailings Facilities: Enhancing Design, Management, and Closure Strategies

The session explores critical issues at the intersection of mine closure, tailings management, and waste handling – examining both regulatory developments and on-the-ground challenges faced by industry

Moderator/Presenter: Sheila Imrie, Principal Hydrogeologist / Groundwater Numerical Modeller

14:00 - 15:30 Sustainability Session 3
De-risking Underground and Surface Mining

Exploring critical challenges in mining risk management, focusing on geological, hydrogeological, and geomechanical factors that impact resource estimation and operational safety. Common errors in mineralisation modelling, their consequences, and prevention strategies. How hydrogeology can reduce ore reserves, the influence of geomechanical modifying factors on deposit reserves, and the quantitative assessment of ground deformations for operational risk?
