Desmond Mossop has been involved in the field of Engineering Geology as applied to open pits and underground massive mining operations, and rock slope engineering for over than 25 years. His expertise includes International geotechnical review boards, geotechnical data collection and review, geotechnical analysis, geotechnical project evaluations and due diligence studies. Desmond also has experience in slope design and risk-based optimisation, slope stability monitoring and risk management, project and operational review, including geotechnical aspects of mine closure, open pit to underground transitions and interaction; and review, development and assistance in the design and implementation of geotechnical management programmes for open pit and underground massive mining operations, including the establishment of excavation monitoring and limit blasting programmes.
Desmond has worked internationally, servicing mining operations across multiple geographies, including: South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Ghana, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Australia, Canada, Chile and Brazil. This experience covers multiple commodities, including Iron Ore, Copper, Platinum and associated Base Metals, Niobium, Nickel, Phosphates, Coal, Uranium, Manganese, Zinc, Diamonds and Gold
