SRK Consulting (South Africa) Pty Ltd (SRK), in collaboration with Angolan environmental consultancy Geolab, Engenharia e Consultoria Lda. (Geolab), has been commissioned by PAK Yatirim to conduct the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Cassinga Electrical Power Supply Project (the Project). The Project involves constructing a 220 kV overhead transmission line spanning 170 km through the provinces of Huíla and Huambo in Angola, including substations and medium to low voltage networks to enhance electrical distribution and connectivity.
The ESIA adheres to the Angolan Ministry of Environment’s Presidential Decree No. 278/22 and other relevant national legislation, incorporating Good International Industry Practice (GIIP) requirements from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Equator Principles, International Labour Organisation (ILO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations (UN). The Project, registered with the Ministério do Ambiente (MINAMB) under Protocol No. 18524917237, and is classified as a Category B Project as per national legislative requirements.
Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT) is the Project proponent, with PAK Yatirim serving as the engineering, procurement, construction, and finance (EPC-F) contractor. Upon completion, PAK Yatirim will hand over the Project to RNT. The Project aims to enhance the electric power supply across communities within Huíla Province, boosting agricultural, industrial, and mining sectors while improving local living conditions and attracting investment.
