SRK was initially appointed in 2012 to source groundwater for a regional bulk line project in rural eMadlangeni (within Amajuba District Municipality). Our scope evolved, following intensive planning, to one of characterisation that largely focussed on areas of higher groundwater occurrence. A total of 46 boreholes were drilled at various locations throughout the municipality. Due to the high cost of reticulation to scattered rural settlements from a single bulk pipeline, SRK focussed on smaller scale manageable groundwater schemes. Groundwater was sourced from a number of sources which included newly drilled and existing boreholes and springs. Abstraction from boreholes was powered by solar energy and springs relied on gravity feed. SRKs turnkey approach to water projects and our ability to demonstrate delivery on projects funded by grants accessed by business plans compiled by SRK, were supported by ADM. This resulted in various scopes being created and implemented for various areas with eMadlangeni and Dannhauser Local Municipalities within the Amajuba District. The common outputs from SRKs projects between 2012 and 2018 were delivery of basic water services, eradication of water backlogs, and reduction in costs associated with tankered services to remote rural areas.
